Another incident of rape in Pune. A 17 yr old girl raped by 17 yr old boy. He promised to marry her. She got pregnant and her mother complained to police. My question is if both the boy and girl have willingly had Sexual relation, I don't think it's a rape. Sex under the age of 18 is always NO NO. So both should be made responsible. The boy should definitely be convicted if he had promised the girl and cheated her. Well, the police is investigating. The truth should come out and necessary action should be taken.

In another incident, a man abducted a 16 yr old girl in 2000 and was left on bail till April 2018, whose verdict of 2 yrs imprisonment came in April 2018. Wah re Indian legal system. It is as good as justice delayed is justice denied.

One more incident of child abuse came to light in train from mumbai to pune where a 14 yrs old girl was touched inappropriately by a 30 yr old man. Her mother complained to the railway police and he was caught. Appreciate the girl and her mother. These kind of courage is expected from the public. Even the police are forced to register such incidents. I expect the common public to raise their voice at the right time for speedy action. These immediate response from public will definitely change the unhealthy behaviour of some idiots...@Raveena Chavan

GODMAN ASARAM BAPU RAPE CASE- MORE HARSH PUNISHMENT NEEDED

NEWS IN TOI 26TH APRIL, 2018

The God man Asaram Bapu, is sentence to life imprisonment for raping 16 yrs old girl at his ashram premise on Aug 15th, 2013.

How does his life imprisonment benefit the child & her family. They have already undergone humiliation and loss of mental peace and so much in fact. Sentencing a rape culprit for a life term imprisonment does not serve the purpose of curbing rapes in India. Like a common society outside  jail, inside jail too is a society. In fact their punishment should be so harsh that no one should dare to rape. For example an egg shaped imprisonment would be suitable. Though I am a Humanist, I support such harsh punishments for brutal mistakes only to save and inculcate humanity among the masses. Otherwise it's difficult to curb such heinous acts. We can understand the mindset of a person who can brutally rape a person. he doesn't have much feelings to stay way from the society. He will be ok with the jail sentence as he gets 3 times food and clothes to wear and he  has his fellow prisoners too to mingle. What difference does it make to this culprit...@Raveena Chavan

RECENT RAPE CASES AFTER ISSUING THE ORDINACE ON DEATH PENALTY FOR RAPING MINORS

In Satara, Maharashtra, a 20 yr old woman was raped by 4 people. She was 4 months pregnant when she reported to the police with her aborted foetus
In another incident at UP, two minor boys of age 14 & 16 yrs have raped minor girls of age 5 & 6

In an astonishing event in Telangana state, two cousin brothers studying engineering and polytehcnic have raped their cousin of 5 yrs old who resides beside their house. Her mother complained and the boys were detained. This appeared in local news paper

ORDINANCE ON DEATH FOR RAPE OF MINORS

It's good move and I support such harsh punishments to curb crime against children.

There might be a doubt that if 95%cases are by known people how can we report / file a case against our own people?

In that case can I ask a question? How many children were sexually abused/ molested/ raped to get this decision today have you ever thought? After crossing so many lives the govt moved a little bit...so doesn't matter if few culprits die....tomorrow no one will dare to do it...so such harsh punishments are the need of the hour though ours is a democratic country. So even if it is our near and dear who rape, they should be punished harsh with death penalty..@Raveena Chavan

STOP SARAM INAUGURATION

STOP SARAM (Stop Sexual Abuse, Rape And Molestation) is a mission started by Raveena Chavan to create awareness to
1. Protect ourselves
2. Protect our children both boys & girls
3. Prevent men & children from SARAM
4. Info on Legal punishments to culprits
5. Voicing the incidents or suspicious acts
6. Volunteers at home and neighborhood to create awareness as 95% of SARAM is done by known people.

It is aimed to create awareness within our circle of family, friends, neighbours, classmates and co workers to STOP Sexual Abuse, Rape and Molestation.

On advice of the Pune police commissioner Reshmi Shukla, the local police Ranjana Burugule inaugurated STOP SARAM pledge at Pune Andhra Association, Deccan, pune on Feb 3rd at 5:30pm.
The reason behind to start is ...Since more n more Sexual Abuse, rape and Molestation cases are increasing day by day, it's time for us to be aware of our surroundings to safeguard ourselves and our kids.

Ranjana Burugule has helped the crowd to understand the crime and the help from the police station and was answering queries raised by the people. Around 40 members have attended the program.

On the first day itself around 15 volunteers have come forward to take part in this movement and educate the masses. Over 40 members have taken the pledge this day to STOP SARAM.

When each and everyone in the society are alert and take care of ourselves, we can atleast reduce few SARAM cases. Even if we can stop one culprit we can save few lives. To do so we need to educate ourselves, educate people surrounding us, prevent our own people to do such acts, also safeguard them and to list out the punishment for such offences....@Raveena chavan

36 years after sexual assault, woman files a police complaint

If we do not act on STOP SARAM....cases like the following will come everyday. Let's put a stop to SARAM (sexual Abuse, Rape And Molestation)...@Raveena Chavan

The following news is in Times of India: Pune Mirror dated 15th Jan, 2017

36 years after sexual assault, woman files a police complaint

Ex-BJP corporator Rejina Gaikwad claims a city businessman tried to rape her while she was working as a receptionist at his firm in 1981

At a time when more and more women are speaking up about sexual harassment at the workplace, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator has come forward with a case that took place 36 years ago.
Rejina Gaikwad (54), a resident of Aundh, has alleged that she was molested by a Pune-based businessman in 1981 while working as a receptionist in his office at Bopodi.

In her complaint, filed at Khadki police station, Gaikwad has named Atul Kotkar, owner of Kotkar Automobiles, as the perpetrator and claimed that he tried to rape her.

According to her complaint, Gaikwad used to live with her parents, an older sister and younger brother at the time. To contribute to the family’s meagre finances, Gaikwad completed Class X and a teaching certification and started working with a private company in Sangvi. In August 1981, she changed jobs and took a receptionist’s post at Kotkar Automobiles, which was then located in Bopodi. Its present location in Deccan.

Gaikwad claimed that despite having been taken on as a receptionist, she was made to undertake cleaning work, too.
Occasionally, Kotkar would ask her to come out with, but she refused. In September 1981, Kotkar insisted that he would take her out one Sunday. He asked her to come to Jay Hind theatre in Khadki. He picked her up on his motorbike and nearly an hour later, they arrived at a hill. Gaikwad did not recognise the area, though Kotkar later told her it was Hanuman Tekdi.

She alleged that Kotkar then took her on top of the hill and molested her. Gaikwad, who had not eaten all day, suddenly fell unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she realised that Kotkar was on top of her, touching her inappropriately.

“I tried to get up, but he pushed me down and tried to rape me. I was furious. I finally pushed him off, got to my feet and started looking for stones to hit him with. Finally, we came down and I managed to leave the spot. I went into trauma due to the incident —the memory still haunts and infuriates me,” she told Mirror.
Later, Kotkar then took her to a sports club, asked her to sit outside and went to play table tennis with some friends. After a while, he dropped her at Dapodi market and left.
The complainant did not share the incident with anyone. Fearful and angry, she went back to work. But, a few days later, Kotkar allegedly asked her to come to the storeroom and molested her again. Other employees spotted them and he was forced to let her go. Later, when the complainant tried to confront him, he alleged that she had stolen some material from the firm.

Gaikwad further stated that she had tried to talk to a policeman, but he shrugged her off and told not to discuss it with anyone.

Finally, she quit her job and decided to move on. But, she could not forget the trauma.
“I tried to talk to so many people but nobody would help me since I was from a financially weak background. I got married in 1986 but we separated in 1993 due to personal issues,” Gaikwad added.
But, her life was to change greatly. In 1992, Gaikwad contested the civic elections and garnered the maximum votes for a female corporator in 20 years. At the age of 26, she was also the youngest corporator in Pune. During her tenure, her focus was on widows and women of little financial means.

But despite success and fulfilment, she continued to be disturbed by her past.
Kotkar, who now takes spoken English classes at her Aundh residence, told Mirror, “I started looking for Kotkar’s contact information. I wrote him three letters and tried to call him. I just wanted him to apologise, he didn’t even have to meet me. But, my efforts went in vain and I finally went to the police. When the cops called Kotkar to the station, he came with his lawyer and started making allegations against me.”

Kotkar, however, painted a different picture and seemed determined to see himself as the victim.
He said, “Rejina worked with us in 1981 for a few months. She suddenly started making these false allegations and extorting money from me. I have a stellar reputation in the city, which she is trying to ruin. This is all a conspiracy and I explained it all to the cops. It is possible that she is mentally disturbed, but we are going to sue her for defamation.”
Senior police inspector Laxman Borade of Khadki police station, said, “We have received the complaint from Gaikwad and are conducting an inquiry into the matter”.

Assistant police commissioner Ganesh Gawade added, “There are some provisions in the Code of Criminal Procedure regarding time limits for reporting such cases. If this is a clear case of molestation and attempted rape, we will investigate the matter and definitely take action.”
